suspects whenever we get any amount of rain in the north bay. live look at the golden bridge as well. we have a fogged a vizry. back to you guys right now. >> thanks a lot, mike. we begin with the latest from japan. rescue workers are racing against time to find survivor. but the body count continues to rise with thousands more victims discovered. kristen dahlgren is in tokyo and she says there are now worries about another nuclear reactor. >> reporter: with heavy equipment and bare hands rescue workers continue the desperate search for survivors but virtually every piece of debris moved away reveals an increasingly grim scene. >> translator: my relatives and friends are missing after this tsunami destroyed the village. they were all washed away. >> reporter: in one area reports of some 2,000 bodies found. the unofficial count more than 10,000 still missing. for the survivors of the quake, surviving the aftermath is

proving just as challenging. as temperatures dip below freezing, for many there is no food, no water, no electricity. not even gas to make it to safety. the sirens still sound as aftershocks and more tsunami warnings bring fresh panic. then another hydrogen explosion, this time in the number three reactor at the fukushima daiichi nuclear plant. officials say the reactor can no longer cool itself but a leak of mass radiation is unlikely. but for so many already dealing with so much, it's just one more reason to fear. surviving the quake was just the start. and we've gotten late word that the number two reactor at that plant is now losing coolant as well. "the new york times" is reporting that the pentagon's expected to announce that crew member on board the "uss ronald reagan" were exposed to a radio active cloud getting a month's

worth of radiation in the span of about an hour. news this morning that a san jose woman missing in the quake in japan is alive and well. they reunited the family by phone. good morning. >> good morning, laura. the family barely had time to sleep. it was just before midnight that they found out that their loved one is okay. let's show you that emotional video of that first interaction via phone with the family. >> hi. >> are you okay? >> yeah, i'm totally okay. i'm absolutely -- i've been fine the whole time. >> you can imagine what's going through l minds. let's ask them right now. megan walsh is canon's sister

and her mother. >> still very fortunate to have been able to talk to her. the middle of last night and very early this morning via satellite phone. and really appreciate the fact that so many people were involved in tracking her down. >> you were hopeful, but had no idea what had happened to her. >> unfortunately, it had been 3 1/2 day of watching really terrible footage come through. and had very, very limited information because no information was coming out of that region whatsoever. and so we really just felt like we had to take every angle we possibly could, reach out to anyone we possibly could and say get us some footage of people wherever they are. and luckily she's one of the survivors up at the school high and dry but sort of watching all the depression happen down below. >> she was teaching school there in japan, had returned because some of her kids were going through graduation. your reaction when you got that

phone call and knew it was her on the other end. >> oh, it was just -- we were just awash with relief. i mean, we'd been hopeful as long as we could. it was an act of will to be hopeful. but the confirmation was just wonderful. >> as a mom, how do you keep yourself together knowing your child is in harm's way not knowing what the outcome might be. >> you have to hope that you raised them to have enough sense to listen to the warnings. japan was prepared. you have to hope that they're going to do the right thing and the right circumstance. and she did. good. >> congratulations. we're here with canon purdy's family. we'll be talking to them throughout the morning. back to you. >> so nice of them to share that story with us. the shaking is not over in japan. there have been some 300 aftershocks.

george kir iyama is on special assignment. >> reporter: we've been feeling aftershock after aftershock. we're told it felt like a 6.2. the place is rattling. at one point i felt like i had to go under the desk just to make sure nothing fell on top of me. that got our attention here at the hotel. i was on the third floor when it happened. my other colleagues were on the ninth floor. they said it was shaking pretty good up there on that top floor. there have been lines of people stocking up on food and water in the supermarkets in tokyo. trying to stock up on food and water as well as gasoline. we've been hearing long lines at gasoline stations in na rita, north of tokyo. back to you. the earthquake may also have affected the entire planet. scientists say the magnitude 8.9 quake shifted the earth's axis, which also shortened the day. but you probably won't notice it. nasa says the length of the day has been shortened by 1.8

millionths of a second. a number of groups are offering ways to help out in the efforts in japan including the american red cross. you can donate at redcross.org or find americanred cross on facebook. text redcross to 9099. each text will donate $10. we have an update on b.a.r.t. service after a train derailment in the east bay. christie smith is live at concord with the latest with what's going on there. >> good morning to you. there was a big question about this monday morning commute for b.a.r.t. rider. would they have to take a bus bridge from where we are to the concord station because of a train derailment. we have good new to report. full service has been restored. first train's rolling through about 4:00 this morning to san francisco.

rolling very slowly slow after service between pleasant hill and the bay point station was disrupted yesterday. now, this morning a fleet of buses was ready to move riders from the concord station, but it wasn't necessary. a driver told me that they had to watch the first train go by at about 4:00 this morning. he told me as long as that could happen, they would go home and they wouldn't have to carry any passengers. about the derailment, yesterday near the concord station, a ten-car train derailed. the last two cars went off the rails. 65 people evacuated. three of them have minor injuries. b.a.r.t. has launched an investigation, but it's still unclear this morning exactly what caused those two cars to derail. but between yesterday afternoon and late last night, a crane mo moved those cars out of the way. and b.a.r.t. has made repairs to the tracks. that's the latest from here. reporting live in concord, christie smith, "today in the bay". >> hopefully it will be okay for

the morning commute today. let's check the forecast for today as well. a little drizzly last night. actually pretty rainy. >> we had a lot of moisture come through. the good news is just in time for our back-to-work monday minus one-hour commute, we'll be seeing things really start to clear out. that's the good news. roads won't be as slick as they were overnight. we're seeing a spotty flow of rain coming down in places like san francisco. we're not really seeing much activity down in the south bay. the north bay starting to see clearing in the east bay. right now we're seeing all the action with light scattered showers moving pretty slowly past fremont and live aremore. then we're going to see clearing and the breaks of sunshine that we do see today because we're starting out so warm with our temperatures already in the upper 50s. we'll be able to end up towards 70 degrees. san jose, you're at 58 degrees, you're at 56 in gilroy. later on today our temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s.

some places might hit 70. some of the warmer places will hit that 70 degree mark. looking at 66 in fairfield today. 65 in redwood city and san francisco. your extended forecast is coming up. we're ramping up the rain chances each and every day this week. right now back to work on time with mike and noah. >> that's a key factor. change that clock in your car, guys. we always forget that over the weekend. right now looking at heyward. pretty smooth drive through castro valley and 580 and approaching the san mateo bridge. as you come off the san mat tio bridge on the peninsula, the nimitz freeway either north of southbound stay to your right two lanes. that configure changed on saturday. and caused a bit of confusion. i communicated with folks on facebook. remember, on the the freeway, you're taking your right two lanes. the move over towards the bay bridge, no major issues or slowing here. we'll show you that things are

welcome back, everybody. a live look at one of our cameras taking a peek from mount san bruno this morning. the deal is, man, it is so foggy that the red light on top there is just kind of this murky red. >> looks like a patrol car. >> you got to watch as you head out this morning. you could see patch of fog. be careful on your morning commute. the owners of an iconic san francisco hotel might get more time to get approval for a controversial plan. it wants to replace 23 stories of the fairmount hotel with condominiums. mayor ed lee is asking the board of supervisors to extend the dead tp line to get more time for approval from the manning commission. critics say it will take jobs

away. and it criticizes being out of sync with the neighborhood. the hotel's owners are threatening to sell if they do not get approval. the quake in japan continue to impact the markets. it is having a dramatic impact on japan's market and the economy. this morning we're live at cnbc headquarters with the detail. it is impacting them in so many different ways, nicole. >> absolutely, brent. investors are still assessing the global impact of the disaster in japan. japan's main stocks index, the nikkei 225 fell sharply down, down 630 points or 6.2%. trader there had little time to react to the earthquake and tsunami on friday which just hit right before the market closed. many economists say that japan could fall back into recession. but growth could pick up again in the second half of the year amid some of the rebuilding efforts. insured losses in japan are

estimated to hit at least 35 billion. we're also watching the company impact this morning. toyota specifically has halted production at its domestic plants through wednesday. so that means a cut of about 40,000 vehicles. it is making it even harder for toyota or other big manufacturers to get their part. they're affected by rolling power blackouts throughout the country. the story continue to change by the hour and the minute. >> thank you for the update. hundreds of bay area students and teachers are headed to sacramento this morning to protest budget cuts to their school. buses will pick people up from foothill college beginning at 6:00 this morning. the district could be hit with a reported 8 to $22 million in cuts. and classes could cost about $600 more per year beginning in july of next year. about 30,000 people are expected to rally at the state capital today. 5:16.

we want to check in with christina. we showed you the pictures outside. it can be murky depending on where you're going. >> it is a bit murky out there. the fog doesn't look all that bad as we look at the widespread picture. we do have moisture across the area. some cities actually picked up over a quarter of an inch of rain. as a result of high pressure building back in and compressing all that moisture, we do have a little bit of fog out there this morning. when we show you the visibility map, it is something that's starting to develop. we head throughout the morning, it still breezy out there and our skies are certainly not clear. rain coming down right now, pretty good batch, raining from novembered ao down to san francisco. it will really start to deteriorate, though, we'll see these really spotty showers, very light in nature. and then by this afternoon, high pressure really regains control. you can see this ridging out here. not only that, but the second

half of the day. visibility not too bad. you can see for ten miles out in the north bay, but that is an area of concern, as you just saw that ridge building in, we can see more fog develop. temperatures are in the 50s already. 56 degrees in san francisco. we'll turn over to about 65 degrees. today looks like a nice day with the braebs of sunshine we do get. some citieses will be able to warm up and 66 in fairfield today. 66 in los gatos. back to you guys. >> thank you very much. >> it is 5:18 right now. it is not only mothers who get postpartum depression. and the end to the unlimited internet. of course, you're getting an early start to your morning commute. i have notes for the trivalley area for most of the morning and the evening commute.

good morning to you. taking a live look outside. this is the b.a.r.t. platform. we're keeping an eye on it after yesterday's derailment. delays are not expected this morning. we'll check in with mike with the morning commute. >> good morning. good morning, you guys. you're absolutery right. there are no delays for the b.a.r.t. system. christie smith has been giving us updates and talking about what happened over the weekend. pittsburg-bay points right now, no delays. a 15-minute drive coming off of 205 and down to livermore. then 52 noted and speeds in the 50s and 60s right now on the westbound side. eastbound, that off ramp closes today because of that project. that will remain closed. use north livermore av flew to

get on to city streets. moving slowly through castro valley and the san mateo bridge. westbound with those tail lights no problem into the peninsula. you will have that interchange at 880 the nimitz freeway. heading towards the bay bridge right here, we have the 18-minute travel time town to the east shore freeway. no major delay here. you'll have wet road ways in places like the north bay. northbound 101 at lucky drive. keep that in mind. also that same area just off to the right side of the screen. a fog advisory as well as the golden gate bridge. that fog is drifting through some of your travel spots. send it back to you. >> a malaysian newspaper is apologizing for printing a cartoon which some say is inappropriate. it published the drawing of a popular japanese superhero

trying to outrun a tsunami. and this is the cartoon again. malaysian reacted angrily calling for a boycott of the paper. officials from the newspaper apologyize on their website. it expressed sorrow for the japanese people. a new study out this morning finds a surprising number of new fathers are suffering if postpartum depression. about 7% of new fathers are depressed according to researchers at the university of michigan. of those, 40% admit they've spanked their kids at just 1-year-old. 14% of fathers who are not depressed say they have spanked their 1-year-old. depression is strongly tied to unemployment rate. roger clemens faces one count of obstruction of congress and perjury charges. today's hearing comes after a judge gave attorneyses more time to go over huge amounts of evidence that were gathered during the investigation into whether clemens lied about using

performance enhancing drug. he has pleaded not guilty. the days of unlimited internet are over for at&t userses. the company will start capping your internet. scott mcgrew here to explain what it means. >> they already do this with your cell phone. but this morning we're talking about your home internet connection. your dsl. several news agency report at&t will start capping internet downloads at 150 gigabytes a month for regular dsl users. go over that and you will pay extra. this according to several reports including "time" magazine. the company points out that most internet users use a fraction of that data every month. comcast already has a cap in place for its user. so why do you care if only an estimated 2% of users are affected? many net historians -- and yeah, there are net historians -- say the dot-com boom started when the old aol went from a pay by

there's some fog. it is monday, march 14th. today in the bay. from nbc bay area, reporting what matters to you, this is "today in the bay." good monday morning, everybody. thanks for joining us. i'm brent cannon. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. a look at the forecast with christina. >> yeah, we kind of have a wet start to this back-to-work monday, post daylight saving time already hard getting up probably. but the showers are starting to thin out substantially. the next weather phenomena we'll have to deal with if it does happen is high pressure building in and compressing that moisture leaving us with a foggy start. the places that are getting the showers right now, we're not seeing a lot of fog. we've got a lot of activity, a lot of wind. that makes the fog formation, it's really not conducive. as we head through the next couple of hours as the system continues to pull out of the area, we see that area clearing. when that moves in, we can see dense fog.

we're already noticing that over the bridges. how about impacting the drive? >> yeah, so far just a warning from chp. watch that coming over the golden gate bridge and the richmond san raphael bridge. we've watching not for the amount of fog but the traffic coming off of the delta -- i'm sorry, off of the water. but it's pretty typical pattern here. a all the way over to l, over to loveridge. it's kicked off in full force there. we'll see those yellow indicators turn to red. then hopefully we don't see that here, but northbound 424 coming off the 680 we have a log in the roadway. watch out for that. the bay bridge toll plaza, still some puddles there. watch the wet roads as well. >> we're following the developments in japan minute by minute. here's the very latest. new worries after an explosion overnight at a nuclear power plant. it was the second hydrogen explosion at the fukushima plant since friday's earthquake and

tsunami. at least six people were injured. the plant's operator says radiation is within the legal limits. the trouble has u.s. worrying about its own nuclear reactors. we'll have a live report on that coming up. rescue crews continue their work in the region. the number of people confirmed dead is 2800. the miyagi police chief estimates the number of people dead in the province will top 10,000. in tokyo people are lining up for supplies. long lines have formed at shops and gas stations as fears of a food shortage grew. most stations have supplies but there are long lineses of car. we're getting more and more video from the region. the tsunami ripped through the cities in northeast japan. carried houses, cars and debris inland. roughly 9500 people are missing. there are some stores of

hope. a san jose missing for several day in japan is now alive and well. "today in the bay" was there when the family got the good news. >> hi. >> are you okay? >> yeah, i'm totally okay. i'm absolutely -- i've been fine the whole time. >> her family was desperately waiting for word. they got it late last night. good news for them. and damian trujillo was there with the family. this is a good news story. >> reporter: it's always good to tell these kinds of stories, brent. this has been the busiest part of canon purdy's home here. it's been a long three days for this family. purdy had just arrived in japan where she recently taught

english, but then the quake hit. and the family lost all communication with her. the last time they heard from canon was a text one hour before the earthquake saying she was headed to see her former students for graduation. the family waited by the phone on the computer, hoping to get some news, then the phone call from nbc news just before midnight last night. >> it was amazing. i was on the phone with ann curry, which i never thought would happen, first of all. and then i asked her, you know, ann curry, why are you calling me some luckily she was able to pass the phone right over to my sister in the most devastated area of japan. it was absolutely a shock and surprise and such a welcome thing to hear. >> reporter: the family is not sure when they'll see canon purdy again. she did lose her passport in the earthquake. it's still under the rubble of somewhere in japan. and she was also going on an extended trip to india and other

parts of the world out there. and so the family here is just glad to know that she's okay. they're thanking everybody via twitter or via facebook. and any means that they can think of to thank everybody for what they've done to make sure that they know that canon purd is okay in japan. some good news there. thanks a lot, damian. >> one of many wonderful stories as well, emotional reunions over the weekend of family members and loved ones escaping danger in japan returned to u.s. soil. we've got video from honolulu international airport. this mother visibly moved upon seeing her daughter. each passenger certainly had their own story. where they were when they felt the quake, how long it lasted, stories of things falling, pictures breaking, buildings bending, people screaming. everyone seemed to have their own unique perspective. >> i didn't feel any wind and i didn't feel any movement yet. i thought this is kind of weird. then within a few seconds, i started to feel the ground move

under me. >> international flights in and out of japan are operating at reduced levels at this point. many are still stuck in the country after 400 flights out of japan were canceled on saturday. >> a lot of people would like to help as well. if you would like to help, you can donate to the american red cross. go to redcross.org or find american red cross on facebook. you can text redcross to 90999 and each text will donate $10 to the red cross' humanitarian effort. but make sure that you go to a legitimate site like the red cross. facebook users should think twice before clicking on any suspicious tsunami-related links posted online. spammers have already added japan's earthquake to their bag of trick. make sure you avoid one particular link, 24-footp japanese tsunami crashes whale into building. if you click on that one, you're asked to take a survey.

the scammers get paid for the survey result, then the link is posted on your wall. if you come across any suspicious link, make sure that you contact facebook's security team. b.a.r.t. service is up and running at one eastbound station after a train derails over the weekend. christie smith has been following the overnight repair efforts. she joins us live in concord with the very latest. >> good morning to you. you know there's a little bit of confusion among b.a.r.t. riders this morning. they were wondering if the trains would be rolling through here this morning. they say they'd have to take a bus bridge to get to work bought of that train derailment yesterday. turns out, good news service is restored with the first trains rolling through 4:00 this morning. they were rolling kind of slowly when they first started after service between pleasant hill and bay point was disrupted. now this morning a fleet of

buses ready to move riders from the concord station, turns out it wasn't necessary. they spoke with the drivers this morning, he was told to get here very early and make sure they watched the first train go by just after 4:00. as long as that happened, they could just go home and not pick up any passenger. about the derailment, though, yesterday around 9:20 in the morning mere the concord b.a.r.t. station, the last two cars derailed. 65 people had to be evacuated. three had minor injuries. b.a.r.t. has launched an investigation into what caused this. but at this point, it's still unclear. but yesterday afternoon and into late last night, a crane was brought in to help get those cars out of the way. and b.a.r.t. made overnight repairs to the tracks. a real sense of relief out here this morning. everything back to normal. reporting live in concord, christie smith, "today in the bay." in the meantime, we want to get you updated on today's

forecast. christine has what we can expect monday morning. >> good morning to you. we are going to see a lot of rain over the course of this work week, but today doesn't look all that bad. the bulk of the moisture we'll see today coming down right now. and overnight. we saw quite a bit of moisture pass through the bay area. so we just have a few a.m. showers, by this afternoon, we'll see a lot of clearing. high surf advisory is in place. from 11:00 a.m. today to 11:p.m. tonight. that can hamper some of the cleanup efforts. so we really want to pay attention to that. we could see swells up to 15 feet at times. that's something we'll watch for you this morning. also this week, we have rain chances each and every day. tomorrow looks like we'll see rain throughout the day, whereas this morning we'll only see it for first part. if you want to see outdoor activities, you can see those plan, but you'll want to reserve them for the second half of the day. quite a bit of moisture coming through. right now a lot of light scattered shower activity.

the east bay just got hit. but high pressure is doing a job moving in. clouds arcing up and around that amplifying ridge. some of our temperature will climb into the 70s. by 10:00 a.m. today we'll see a completely dry bay area. your extended forecast is on the way. right now i'll check your drive. >> we'll all check the drive. let's go out here to livermore where you showed of that reign coming through. 580 smoothly but look for the wet conditions as well as the buildup of the commute. 255 heading to tracy and livermore, about 54, that's registered at fortola avenue. your evening commute is eastbound 580, the toll ramp on the eastbound side is closed today starting the rest of today and until they make another change. the isabel interchange going on. that might cause some slowing as you back up there. coming off the san mateo bridge,

we have changes there as well. you'll go on to 880 from the right two lanes, north or south doesn't matter. that's the san mateo bridge. a live look out there shows the san mateo bridge moving slowly. fog advisory for the bay bridge and we're looking at oakland. look at the buildup of traffic and also wet conditions here. the lights are blurred. you can see all the moisture out there. >> time now is 5:40. how the quake in japan has affected people here. we'll have the latest on the efforts to clean up the santa cruz harbor. and the hydrogen explosion in japan has a lot of people here on edge. washington now looking if the u.s. could be in trouble if there's a natural daisaster her. a new report says that pg&e set its own rules before the san bruno expln. t

welcome back, everyone. in the wake of numerous explosions at japanese power plants over the weekend, this morning capitol hill is buzzing over the safety of our own nuclear power plants. tracy potts has a closer look. >> reporter: we have 104 of them here in the united states. they generate 20% of our nuclear power. nearly every state has one. now the nuclear regulatory association is assuring americans that these plants have been built to withstand severe shocks, but shocks as strong as those in japan, they really haven't been tested to that degree. now we're looking at building even more. four applications slate ed to start in a few year. the obama administration firmly behind this. they've been pushing for more nuclear facilities.

now they've announced $8 billion in loans for firms to build them. he's asking more more than eight times of that. the explosions, the evacuation, the concerns about leaking radiation. here on capitol hill, some lawmakers are saying, look, let's back up, let's hold off on approving or considering any more nuclear plants until we review what we already have. are we sufficiently protected? others say that this is not a good time to make u.s. policy while we're in the middle of this crisis. i should also tell you the nuclear regulatory commission says that there's not much of a threat of the radiation that we're seeing in japan reaching u.s. shores, at least not in harmful levels. some of that has affected the "uss reagan." now they've detected radiation in some of the helicopter pilots, some of the navy pilots that were working off the ships to deliver those supplies. thank you for the update,

tracy. also today in the bay's george kiriyama is on special assignment in japan. >> he's on his way to sendai, but he joins us by phone this morning. good morning, george. how are you doing? >> reporter: good morning, guys. good evening from tokyo where it's past 9:30 in the evening. i have to stay right off the top it's been quite a day as we felt at least ten aftershocks. the strongest one 6.2 magnitudm. i was live on the phone with diane dwyer last night when that happened. we were staying the past anyway in narita. i was in my hotel room when that one hit. the shaking lasted for almost 40 seconds. i thought of ducking under the desk, then it quieted down. the other happened while i was sleeping. the bed shook, the windows rattled. we are feeling aftershocks about every 90 minutes.

i have not felt this many aftershocks or earthquakes, ten of them, in fact, i haven't felt that many all in a row like that ever in my whole life. it's been a big experience, a different experience and a very scary experience for me here just dealing with this. we're trying to finalize our plans to drive up to sendai and the fukushima areas. a big challenge has been trying to find someone to drive us up to the quake zone. we thought we had one finalized but fell through at the last second. so we're going to make sure we find a driver. we're going to make sure we have enough food and water to last us a few days, because we're hearing the markets in the sendai area have run out of almost everything. but the biggest challenge, i have to tell you, will be gasoline. we're hearing so many stories of people and physicalo journal is running out of gas, then sitting in line for hour at gas stations sometimes without filling their tanks. that's a big concern that we obviously have. here in tokyo, we've been here

for a couple of hours. and we're -- we know that people are dealing with the aftershocks. but if they're worried about what's happening, they're not showing it in their faces. people are out and about trying to go about their normal business. and finally, watching japanese tfb here in my hotel room. i have it on as i speak to you. it's just been nonstop coverage of the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami. now, of course, the fears of nuclear radiation. so at least five or six stations devoted to nonstop coverage. obviously, if this happened in our country, in the unite, you would assume that a number of stations, the 24-hour cable station would be providing the same amount of full coverage that we see here in japan. >> interesting, interesting. must be fascinating to be there. and the connection is so clear, it's amazing. sounds like you're just next door. we'll check back in an hour as

you attempt to gear up and head north. be safe. >> we have an update on some of the conditions at the santa cruz harbor after the tsunami. no boats are being allowed in or out because the cleanup continue there. the tsunami caused $17 million in damage and $4 million in damage to private boats. one dock holding 40 boats ripped apart completely sending boats drifting out to sea. 17 vessels have been found on the bay floor causing environmental conditions because of leaking fuel. the harbor won't reopen until march 20th at the earliest. further north, crews in crescent city harbor near the oregon border estmt the damage in in the tens of million of dollars swell. eight-foot waved rolled in there sinking 11 boat and causing about $20 million in damage to

their docks. this is not the first tsunami to sweep through that harbor. a tsunami surged through crescent city back in 2006 causing $10 million in damages as well. pg&e avoided costly inspections by using its own set of safety standards for gas pipelines. "the san francisco chronicle" says that they'd inspect the lines only if pressure rose above 10%. pg&e depends its actions as safe, but experts say it may have played a part in the san bruno explosion. pg&e twice exceeded the pressure for the lines but never checked for faulty seams. more rain coming through our area soon. >> more rain making things a little bit more difficult. even after the time change over

the weekend. remember, we sprang forward at 2:00 a.m. sunday. more pressure than we'd like to see along the peninsula. north bay finally getting a chance to clear out. showers extending from san francisco up through antioch. get ready for rain in redwood city in the next 10 to 15 minutes if it's not already raining over your house. this won't be the case all day long. we'll see a change today. high pressure is already starting to build in. as we head through the next few hours, we do have a really good opportunity for some dense patchy fog to develop. we'll keep watching that for you although our visibility readings are pretty good right now. nothing below eight miles all across the board. mike has shown us we do have fog developing over the bridge. 58 degree in sunnyvale, for you in san jose, 58 degrees to start you out at 5:30 in the morning. that's pretty comfortable.

it will be mostly cloudy but enough breaks of sunshine for our temperature to climb towards 69 today in los gatos. 65 in redwood city and 66 in san jose. we've got a chance of rain each and every day this week. i'll show you the extended forecast. it is a holiday week, st. paddy's day coming up. a lot to talk about coming up. including my gaels. bay area basketball fan will spend this march with not a single team made the tournament chuing st. marys, which had the best shot. they didn't get the large bid they were hoping for. but they'll play the n.i.t. first game is tomorrow. also in the nichlt i.t., the bears, san jose state. also n.i.t. is brent's team, colorado buffaloes.

this reaches back to when he was ceo of the german company. today he'll have his press appearance. although he's been in charge of hewlett-packard since last september. hp's had a long list of strange management. he taked over more mark herd who resigned after questioning about how much money he spent on a movie actress who worked as a pr consultant. carly fiorina was fired by the hp board. she was ceo before hurd. she faced criminal charges of investigations on spying on reporters. hewlett-packard continues to be a very good company run pi a long strange list of people. we'll have more for you tonight at 6:00. more news coming up as well. stay tuned. i had an apple turnover. i know it's sort of my weakness. i always keep it in the house.
